Galle International Cricket Satdium is located in Galle, a town on the Indian Ocean.It's one of only two cricket grounds in the world that is sited below sea level (the other being the Bourda ground in Guyana).The Galle Fort overlooks the cricket ground and provides one of the most picturesque backdrops in international cricket.The Indian Ocean fringes two sides of the stadium which was extensively refurbished by the Sri Lankan cricket board in 1996.However when the tsunami struck the Southern coast on December 26, 2004, the stadium was destroyed.The ground was almost entirely wrecked, with many stands gone and the playing area strewn with debris.With international help it is planed to rebuild the ground to it's former self.
