Guus Hiddink Stadium was one of 20 stadiums to host some matches of the 2002 FIFA World Cup. The stadium was since renamed in honour of Guus Hiddink. Hiddink helped the team advanced to the semifinals for the first time in its history by defeating Spain in this stadium.
