Oakwell is home to Barnsley FC and is one of the oldest of football stadia in the UK being built in 1888. The stadium holds a total of 23,006 spectators (all seated). Three of the stands have recently been redeveloped the most striking of which is the East stand, which when first built dwarfed the rest of the stadium, the east stand consists of two teirs witha row of executive boxes between the teirs.
The record attendance at Oakwell was 40,225 during a F.A. Cup 5th round tie with Stoke City, the game was played on 15th Feburary 1936.
Barnsley are planning on redeveloping the aging West Stand although there are no timescales as of yet.
