The O2 Arena is the former home of the Millennium Dome and is based in Greenwich, London. The arena holds a full capacity of 20,000 spectators and will be used as an entertainment venue showcasing the latest technology.
The dome cost approximately £350m to renovate on top of the £789m it cost to construct. Adding these costs together at £1.1bn ($2bn) makes this the most expensive stadium project in the world. The original structure was constructed in 1999 and opened in 2000 for the Millennium. The O2 Arena opened in June 2007.
The main functions of the O2 arena will be Music concerts and sporting events such as boxing. Acts headlining at the O2 arena include Keane, Barbra Streisand, Ultimate Fighting, The White Stripes, Prince, Scissor Sisters, The Rolling Stones and NHL Ice Hockey to name a few.
The O2 Arena will also be home of the gymnastics competition during the 2012 Olympics.
Between the dates July 8th and July 18th 2009 there will be the last UK concert by Michael Jackson at the O2 arena in his farewell tour. The concert is expected to sell out extremely quickly.
